2025, graphite, charcoal ink, pastel, acrylic, Korean hanji paper, nobang silk, thread, butterfly specimen, ceramic teeth, magnifying glass, on canvas, 10 × 8 inches each
The Moon, Butterflies, and Red Thread is my ongoing series of mixed-media works on canvas, created with graphite, charcoal ink, thread, and layered Korean materials such as hanji paper and nobang silk. Each piece begins with my daily ritual of automatic drawing, where fragments of memory surface and slowly take shape. From these traces, the female body emerges alongside recurring symbols—moon, butterflies, and pomegranates—that intertwine to unfold dreamlike scenes of desire, memory, and transformation.
