objects are made, touched, and used through human hands, and they have always lived alongside us. Within them remain traces of memory, infused with someone’s time and presence. I see the body in much the same way: a vessel where memory, pain, and desire coexist—an outer shell that carries the weight of life and its constant transformations. And I find myself asking: without these memories and desires, would I still be myself?
My grandmother ran an antique shop in Busan. Whether or not customers came, she opened the store each day like a watchful guard in a silent theater, carefully dusting, wiping, and polishing the objects she had gathered. To me, those objects lingered like animals in a shelter, waiting to be chosen and carried into a new life.
Emerging from this personal memory, my ongoing series Objects and Bodies combines found objects I have collected with hand-sculpted stone clay figures of the female body and symbolic forms. Each object, once created for another purpose, is transformed and given a new identity—reborn as another body, another vessel of memory.
